American media, citing the Arkansas State Police, reported that nine civilians were shot, 3 of whom were killed, outside a local grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas.
The report added that one police officer was also shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The state police also added that the shooter was “seriously injured” after officers shot him, and he has been taken into custody.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement on the platform X that she had been briefed on the shooting incident and is in constant contact with state police at the scene.
American reports revealed in December of last year that the number of mass shooting incidents in the United States in 2023 reached 38, the highest number since at least 2006.
