Today, Saturday, Jordan’s Public Security Directorate attributed the heavy security presence and explosions heard in the Marka South area of the capital, Amman, to individuals storing explosive materials inside a house in the area.
This follows the circulation of photos and videos on social media accounts yesterday, depicting a heavy security presence in the area and reports of explosions being heard.
In a statement, the Directorate of Security said that initial investigations by the relevant authorities indicate that a group of individuals—about whom no information was provided—stored quantities of explosive materials inside a house in the Marka South area.
The statement noted that explosive experts from the Royal Engineering Corps and security personnel handled and detonated these materials on site after taking all necessary precautions, including isolating and evacuating the area. It confirmed that no injuries were reported.
The statement also urged everyone to stay away from the site and allow security agencies to continue their work without any interference.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported that residents in the mentioned area heard an explosion early this morning and that the area had seen a significant presence of security vehicles and police officers since last night.
Eyewitnesses said that security personnel used loudspeakers to instruct residents to come down from their rooftops.
The security agencies did not provide information about the individuals mentioned in the Public Security Directorate’s statement, nor did they provide details about the explosives found in the house. However, Public Security Directorate spokesperson Amer Sartawi said that the case is under investigation, and details will be released once the investigation is complete.
