The monitoring officer at the SALAM DHR, Ibtisam AlSaigh, affirmed that the excessive use of force in suppressing peaceful protests in the Qadam area of Bahrain cannot be justified under any circumstances.
In her statements, Ibtisam AlSaigh pointed out that the Bahraini authorities opt for a police approach in dealing with protests, leading to a disregard for the law and resorting to brutal repression and arbitrary arrests.
In clear condemnation of the security actions, Ibtisam AlSaigh stated that security forces opened fire on peaceful protesters who were exercising their legitimate right to protest and demand their basic rights. She also held the Ministry of Interior and all relevant authorities responsible for the damages inflicted on the protesters, especially those who were arbitrarily arrested during the marches without justification.
Al-Saigh concluded her statements by calling on the Bahraini authorities to abide by international law and respect human rights, cease the use of repression and violence against protesters, and work to open channels of dialogue to resolve disputes peacefully and democratically.
