Local reports in Lebanon indicate that a number of civilians were killed or injured as a result of Israeli airstrikes on Monday on the towns of Naqoura and Meiss Al-Jabal in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese news agency reported that Israeli warplanes targeted the Naqoura town, resulting in the destruction of two houses and damage to other homes in the area. It also reported that a drone carried out a strike in the vicinity of a civil defense team, injuring one civilian who was transferred to a nearby hospital.
In another development, Israeli airstrikes targeted the border town of Meiss Al-Jabal, according to the agency. The skies also witnessed intensified reconnaissance flights by Israeli aircraft over villages in the western and central sectors, reaching the outskirts of the city of Tyre to an unprecedented depth.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli army announced that it had carried out overnight airstrikes on Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon, but Hezbollah did not issue an immediate response to these operations.
Israel has occupied areas in southern Lebanon for decades, and since October 8th of last year, the Israeli army and Lebanese and Palestinian factions in Lebanon have exchanged shelling across the Blue Line, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries, most of them on the Lebanese side.
Lebanese factions have affirmed that their operations are in solidarity with Gaza, which has been under Israeli attack since October 7th of last year, resulting in approximately 114,000 casualties, including a large number of children and women, in addition to around 10,000 missing persons amid a severe humanitarian crisis.
Despite a resolution from the United Nations Security Council calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities, and demands from the International Court of Justice for Israel to take immediate measures to prevent “genocide” and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, Israel continues its military operations in the sector.
