The Public Prosecution has decided to take legal action against retired Colonel Mohammed AlZayani, issuing a decision to detain him for 7 days on charges of inciting hatred against Shia through social media.
According to a statement issued by the head of the Electronic Crimes Prosecution, the Public Prosecution received a report from the Electronic Crimes Combat Department indicating that retired Colonel Al-Zayani had published content containing messages of hatred against the Shia sect on his official social media account.
Investigations revealed that Mohammed AlZayani recorded and shared the controversial video on his personal account, vehemently denying any incitement against a specific group. Al-Zayani disregarded the charges against him, asserting his freedom of expression and claiming that his actions did not violate constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression.
As a result, the Public Prosecution has decided to take legal action against Mohammed AlZayani, issuing a decision to detain him for 7 days pending further investigation and legal proceedings.
This case has sparked widespread debate among social media users, with opinions divided between those who support the Public Prosecution’s decision, arguing that disparaging religions is not a personal freedom, and those who see it as a restriction on freedom of expression.
