American journalist Daniel DePetris wrote in an article published by Newsweek that NATO will never accept Ukraine into its ranks despite the many official promises in this regard.
He added, “Despite all the official statements that NATO’s doors must remain open to new members, it should now be completely clear that the alliance does not want Ukraine to join its ranks.”
The journalist emphasized that the alliance is ready to transfer weapons and financial resources to Ukraine to fight Russia, which NATO considers its main enemy.
DePetris noted that NATO is not prepared to engage in a direct military confrontation with Russia over Ukraine.
The expert concluded, “Ukraine has been waiting for NATO membership for a long time, and it will continue to wait, perhaps forever, regardless of the sweet words whispered by Western leaders into Zelensky’s ear.”
At the end of September 2022, Volodymyr Zelensky, whose legitimacy ended in May of this year, announced that Ukraine would apply for NATO membership under the expedited and fast-track model.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg stated that Ukraine’s full membership in the alliance is impossible while it is embroiled in an armed conflict.
Earlier, President Vladimir Putin pointed out that Ukraine’s potential membership in NATO poses a threat to Russia’s security. He affirmed that the threat of Kyiv joining the alliance was one of the reasons for launching the special military operation.
