The Palestinian Prisoner Club reported that Israel continues to detain over 9,300 prisoners in its jails, including at least 75 women and 250 children.
The Prisoner Club, highlighting key figures on the total number of Palestinian Prisoner in Israeli jails “amid the ongoing genocide against Gaza,” stated: “The occupation continues to detain more than 9,300 prisoners in its jails, including at least 75 women and at least 250 children.”
It added: “This figure does not include all detainees from Gaza, whose number is estimated in the thousands. The Israeli prison administration announced the detention of 899 under the classification of ‘illegal combatant.'”
The report noted that the number of administrative detainees “exceeds 3,400 people.”
It continued: “Among the total prisoners, around 600 are serving life sentences or are facing demands from the occupation to be sentenced to life imprisonment.”
At the end of May, the Palestinian Prisoner Club pointed to a significant and unprecedented rise in the number of prisoners suffering from contagious skin diseases in Israeli jails, especially scabies.
The Prisoner Club had previously issued a statement indicating that the majority of released prisoners suffer from physical and psychological health issues.
It called on all international human rights organizations, particularly the United Nations, “to take necessary responsibility and go beyond the limited role they play in the face of a new level of criminality and brutality by the occupation. They should not just monitor and report testimonies and issue reports and positions, but take a role that matches the genocide that the occupation continues against our people in Gaza, supported by international forces.”
