In the context of the multiple crises gripping Lebanon, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed a dire situation facing children in the country, indicating that poverty in Lebanon puts 75% of children at risk.
In a report published on its dedicated website for Lebanon, UNICEF clarified that a large number of families are drifting towards severe poverty due to the overlapping crises affecting the country, leading to an economic and social catastrophe.
The report highlighted that around 90,000 individuals, including at least 30,000 children, have been displaced from their homes in southern Lebanon due to the tension along the border with Israel, exacerbating the state of polarization and displacement in the country.
According to data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the war that broke out last October resulted in the death of eight children and the injury of 75 others, among hundreds of people who were killed or injured in Lebanon.
Regarding infrastructure and basic services, UNICEF confirmed their significant impact, with nine water stations serving over 100,000 people suffering severe damage. Additionally, more than 70 schools have been closed, negatively affecting the education of thousands of children, along with the halt of healthcare services in at least 23 facilities, further exacerbating the pressure on families and children enduring difficult circumstances.
