Iranian President-elect Massoud Pezeshkian confirmed on Saturday that he “will extend a hand of friendship to everyone” in his first statement after announcing his victory in the second round of the presidential elections.
In a statement to the official television, Pezeshkian said, “We will extend a hand of friendship to everyone. We are all the people of this country. We must rely on everyone for the progress of the country.”
He also posted on Platform X, “I extend my hand to you and will not abandon you, and I ask you to stand by my side as well.” He added, “We have a difficult road ahead that can only be overcome with your empathy, trust, and cooperation.”
Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, for his part, said, “I advise the elected president to continue the path of the late president and work on the development of the country and the welfare of the people.”
Khamenei added that the people felt responsible, created an enthusiastic scene, and recorded a high turnout in both rounds of the elections.
Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi stated today, Saturday, that the elections were conducted with precision, transparency, clarity, and a high level of integrity, and the people chose Massoud Pezeshkian as the ninth president of the republic.
Iranians cast their votes yesterday, Friday, in the second round of the presidential elections, where reformist Pezeshkian faced off against conservative Saeed Jalili, a former negotiator on the nuclear file.
The Ministry of Interior stated that Massoud Pezeshkian won about 55% of the votes, while the turnout in the second round of the Iranian presidential elections was 49.8%.
This election was hastily organized to choose a successor to Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter accident on May 19.
