Reuters: U.S. media and government officials reported that four American professors from a small university in Iowa were injured in a stabbing attack at a public park in Jilin Province, northeastern China, on Monday.
Adam Zabner, a representative from Iowa, told Reuters that his brother was among the four injured professors from Cornell College in Iowa.
He explained that the group members were visiting a temple in Bishan Park when they were attacked by a man with a knife. No reports on the motive have been provided.
Activists circulated a video on the platform X showing people lying on the ground covered in blood in the park on Monday, with no trace of the images on Chinese social media.
Reuters was able to verify the location of the video based on Chinese characters written on the walls and other signs, but could not confirm the timing of the video.
A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department said in an email statement that the department is aware of reports of a “stabbing incident” in Jilin, China, and is monitoring the situation.
Chinese authorities have not issued any comments regarding the incident, nor have there been any reports in Chinese media.
The professors from Cornell College were on a mission as part of a teaching experience exchange program with a partner university, Beihua University in Jilin City.
