The commencement of the jury selection session at a New York court on Monday witnessed an unprecedented event in the history of the United States, as former President Donald Trump faces trial on charges of paying hush money to a pornographic film actress.
Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States who is seeking re-election, faces 34 charges, including paying $130,000 to Stormy Daniels, a pornographic film actress, as a bribe to keep her silence.
Daniels has confirmed that this amount was indeed hush money related to a relationship between her and Trump in 2006.
Trump’s lawyers have repeatedly attempted to delay the trial in this case, but to no avail.
Just days before the start of the trial in Donald Trump’s case, Trump himself deemed the judge responsible for the case as corrupt and unfair.
At a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, amidst a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, Donald Trump attacked the judge, saying: “He’s a corrupt and unfair judge. This has never happened before, hasn’t it? He’s just a confused and corrupt judge suffering from the confusion syndrome.”
Meanwhile, Judge Juan Marcan, responsible for the case, announced that the trial would not be postponed due to extensive and prominent media marketing and publicity.
The New York judge rejected Trump’s lawyer’s request to postpone the trial on the grounds that extensive media marketing and publicity could lead to unfair proceedings.
