Moscow, March 24, 2024 (SPA) – The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that a Russian MiG-31 fighter jet prevented two US bombers from violating the Russian state border.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that its radars detected two unidentified targets approaching the Russian border over the Baltic Sea. Consequently, a MiG-31 fighter jet was dispatched to intercept the unknown aircraft.
The Russian fighter was able to identify the two unidentified aircraft as B-1B strategic bombers belonging to the US Air Force.
The Russian fighter warned the US Bombers against approaching the Russian state border and escorted them until they moved away from Russian airspace.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that the Russian fighter carried out its mission in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
This incident is an indication of the growing tension between Russia and the United States in the Baltic Sea region. It also demonstrates the Russian Air Force’s ability to detect any potential threats and defend the state border.
No official comments have been issued by the United States regarding the incident so far.
