Dubai has begun construction on the worlds largest airport building , with a value of $35 billion, set to have the largest capacity in the world upon completion.

Sheikh Mohammed stated that all operations at Dubai International Airport will be transferred to the newer Al Maktoum International Airport in the coming years.
“As we build an entire city around the airport in Dubai South, this will be followed by demand for housing for a million people. Sheikh Mohammed said in his statements on the X platform: ‘Leading global companies in the logistics and aviation sectors will be hosted here.'”
“We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children. Dubai will be the world’s airport, its port, its urban center, and its new global hub.”
Upon completion, Al Maktoum International Airport, opened in 2010, will be the new headquarters for the leading Emirates airline and will feature five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said the development will enhance Dubai’s status as a leading aviation hub.
Griffiths said in a statement: “Dubai’s growth has always been parallel to the growth of its aviation infrastructure, and today we see another bold step in that journey.”
Dubai International Airport has remained the world’s busiest airport for international travel for 10 consecutive years, putting pressure on the facility’s capacity.
Nearly 87 million passengers used the transit hub last year, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
Dubai announced a record-breaking 17.15 million international overnight visitors in 2023, an increase of nearly 20 percent from the previous year.
