The residence of Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibah, head of the Government of National Unity, has been targeted in a rocket attack, according to reports cited by Reuters from local sources.
No human casualties have been reported as a result of the attack, but it caused some material damage to the house located in the Andalusia neighborhood of the capital, Tripoli.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing loud explosions in the vicinity of the house, leading to an increased presence of reinforced security forces in the area.
This incident comes amid escalating political tensions in Libya, which has been experiencing a state of political division since the revolution that ousted the regime of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, leading to the country’s fragmentation into two rival governments.
Recently, three prominent Libyan leaders announced their agreement on the necessity of forming a new unified government to oversee long-awaited elections in the country.
Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibah reiterated his commitment to organizing general elections, stating that he will not step down from power until after these elections are held, in an attempt to end the political deadlock that the country has been experiencing for years.
