Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced today, Sunday, that he will meet with U.S. President Joe Biden in Washington on Tuesday. The Gaza ceasefire is expected to be a major topic of discussion in their talks.
Netanyahu’s office stated in a press release that he will address the U.S. Congress next Wednesday.
According to the statement, the Israeli Prime Minister is scheduled to depart for the U.S. capital on Monday morning, after the trip was initially planned for Sunday evening.
Netanyahu’s visit to Washington comes as the U.S. administration claims significant progress in negotiations aimed at reaching a deal that includes a prisoner exchange between Israel and Palestinian resistance and a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Israeli Prime Minister is under pressure, even from within his own government, to expedite the deal. According to the Israeli website “Walla,” Netanyahu decided to hold a meeting with the negotiation team just hours before his departure to the United States.
Despite substantial political and military support from the U.S. administration since the start of the war on Gaza on October 7, reports indicate a strained relationship between Biden and Netanyahu.
