Before the arrival of the month of Ramadan, the authorities in Bahrain are moving towards tightening sectarian restrictions and oppressive measures, aiming to restrict the freedom to practice the rituals of this blessed month

Cases of persecution have resurfaced once again, as confirmed by Alwefaq National Islamic Society in a statement, indicating that Bahraini authorities continue their restrictive practices against religious activities, attempting to prevent mosque and Husseiniya caretakers from hosting preachers, readers, and singers during the blessed month of Ramadan.

The association stated in its statement that both the Jaafari and Sunni Endowments administrations received government directives prohibiting mosque and Husseiniya caretakers and religious activities organizers from hosting preachers, readers, and singers during Ramadan, under the pretext of empowering Bahraini cadres.

The statement added that just two days after the authorities hosted a world-renowned musician and honored him at a special reception, the decision by the Endowments administrations highlights that these measures are not related to ensuring the empowerment of Bahraini cadres, but rather to besieging religious affairs in the country.

This matter is not new, as pointed out by the Islamic National Accord Association, indicating that Bahrain’s Interior Minister, Rashid Al Khalifa, previously intervened in this matter with the approach of last year’s Ashura. During his speech at a meeting with the Jaafari Endowments administration, the Hussainiya Processions Authority, and some Husseiniya heads, he prohibited the hosting of eulogists and Hussaini preachers from abroad, and obstructed religious tourism for the Ashura season in Bahrain.

The statement by the Islamic National Accord Association concluded by reminding that civil entities hosted the world-renowned reciter Sheikh Mahmoud Al-Shahat during last Ramadan and expressed their intention to repeat hosting him next year, but this new decision will hinder this.
