Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that he intends to urge Arab countries to use all means to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza Strip.
In his “message to the world,” published by the Tehran Times on Friday, Pezeshkian said: “As a first step, my administration will urge neighboring Arab countries to cooperate and use all political and diplomatic means to prioritize achieving a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, aimed at stopping the massacre and preventing the conflict from spreading.”
The newly elected Iranian president added: “We must strive to end the prolonged occupation that has devastated the lives of four generations of Palestinians.”
He emphasized: “In this context, I want to stress that it is the duty of all countries to take measures to prevent genocide under the 1948 Genocide Convention, not to reward it by normalizing relations with its perpetrators.”
Masoud Pezeshkian was elected president of Iran after the previous president, Ebrahim Raisi, died in a helicopter crash on May 19.
Pezeshkian is set to take the oath of office on July 28.
