Floods in Oman have claimed the lives of 18 individuals, including 10 school students, with three others reported missing. Concurrently, Pakistani authorities have announced an increase in the death toll from floods in several areas of the country to 55 people.
Omani authorities responded to the deadly weather developments by suspending work in governmental administrative units and private sector facilities in five northern provinces, including Musandam and Al Buraimi. Similarly, schooling has been suspended across the country, with warnings from Oman’s National Early Warning Center about the continued impact of adverse weather conditions.
The adverse weather conditions have also affected Gulf countries, with Qatar experiencing heavy rainfall and implementing remote work for public sector employees. In Saudi Arabia, most eastern and northern regions witnessed heavy rainfall and strong winds, while the United Arab Emirates was impacted by the storm in the Emirates of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, where heavy rainfall and strong winds were reported in several areas.
Furthermore, the UAE’s meteorological center has announced the continued occurrence of varying degrees of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, prompting Emirati airlines to suspend their flights. To mitigate risks, the UAE Football Association has decided to postpone all local matches scheduled for that day.
