Israel informed U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein that its military operations in the city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, are nearing completion, amid reports of the occupation’s control over most of the city’s neighborhoods.
Israeli Channel 12 mentioned that Israel conveyed to the U.S. envoy that the end of operations in Rafah would impact the region and the front with Lebanon.
This comes as the Israeli occupation army announced that it has managed to secure control over approximately 60% to 70% of Rafah, as part of its ongoing military operation, which has lasted for 40 days.
The occupation army stated that it has suffered significant losses in the battle, with at least 22 soldiers killed and more than 300 others wounded.
It confirmed that over 200 tunnel openings were found in the area, noting that while it is close to concluding the battle in Rafah, additional weeks are needed.
The occupation army also said that during the military operation in the city, it discovered intelligence materials related to Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip and locations where they were held, suggesting that some prisoners might have been “smuggled” before the army entered Rafah.
