The release of hundreds of prisoners on various charges to mark the occasion of Eid al-Adha did not meet the popular expectations in Bahrain.
Bahrainis continue to suffer from the ongoing detention of their loved ones in the regime’s prisons, with continuous demands for the complete release of all Political Prisoners.
The Bahrain Center for Human Rights spoke of significant frustration among Bahrainis after their disappointment over the release of their detained relatives. The royal decree included only a negligible number of political prisoners, despite the announcement of pardoning more than five hundred detainees.
In this context, Sheikh Ali Rahma emphasized in his Eid sermon that all Bahrainis were anticipating the resolution of the political prisoners’ issue by the Eid. He added that the recent releases do not signal an end to this crisis.
Sheikh Ali Rahma highlighted the heavy burden the detainees’ crisis places on all Bahrainis, noting that the arrests have led to the country’s setbacks and decline.
Commenting on the recent royal pardon, former municipal council member of the Al-Wefaq Society, Youssef Rabee, stated that the authorities’ retention of prisoners as a means of pressuring the opposition has proven ineffective in reality.
Rabee affirmed in a post on the X platform that this practice reflects poorly on the authorities’ inability to devise solutions in Bahrain.
Activist Sayed Yousif Almuhafdah said that prolonging the political crisis in Bahrain by using the detainees as a political bargaining chip is an unpatriotic decision.
Almuhafdah clarified that political prisoners are victims of arbitrary detention and unfair trials, emphasizing that “correcting mistakes is more important than continuing them, and contradictory policies do not serve the nation.”
