The Arab League announced that it will hold an extraordinary session at the level of permanent representatives, chaired by Yemen, on Thursday to discuss the “policy of confronting crimes of genocide and settlement expansion.”

The Palestinian Ambassador to the Arab League, Muhannad Al-Aklouk, stated that “the meeting will discuss Arab mobilization, especially as it will be held amid the ongoing crime of genocide committed by Israel, the occupying power, against the Palestinian people for nearly nine consecutive months. It will also address the occupation government’s decisions aimed at preventing the realization of the independence of the State of Palestine on the ground and intensifying plans to annex occupied West Bank territories.”

He added that “the meeting will address the expansion of colonial settlements, the undermining of Palestinian government authority, and the piracy of its funds.”

In related comments, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Tlaleng Mofokeng, stated that groups of people have been literally exterminated in the Gaza Strip, and that no other term but “genocide” can be used to describe what is happening.

Earlier, UNRWA spokesperson Louise Wotridge condemned the difficult conditions faced by the Palestinians besieged in the Gaza Strip for the past nine months.
