In a related context, the society clarified that while the Ministry of Health has announced plans for job localization, the reality reveals continued employment of foreign personnel, with around 1451 foreign nurses currently working in the country, raising questions about the authorities’ seriousness in providing employment opportunities for Bahrainis.
The society sheds light on the recruitment policies at King Hamad University Hospital, where the Bahraini representation is less than 10%, despite authorities’ commitment to enhancing local employment in the medical sector.
Referring to the challenging period during the COVID-19 pandemic, the society pointed out the role of Bahraini nurses who volunteered for 7 months without compensation, while hundreds of foreign nurses were employed on temporary contracts with benefits.
In conclusion, the society affirmed that the healthcare sector in Bahrain has been facing significant challenges since 2011, with ongoing discriminatory policies and failure to provide employment opportunities for local talents, necessitating a reconsideration of existing policies to achieve a balance between local and foreign skills in the medical sector.
