A recent annual report from the International Transparency Organization revealed that Bahrain has dropped 7 positions on the Corruption Perceptions Index in 2023, ranking 76th out of 180 countries, with a decrease of two points in its score to (42/100).

In its Tuesday-issued report, the International Transparency Organization discovered that 23 countries reached their worst levels in its index in about thirty years, whether they had a long democratic history or were authoritarian regimes.

It added that the lack of judicial independence and undermining the rule of law are the main reasons behind the spread of corruption in Bahrain.

Since the release of the first report by the International Transparency Organization in 1995, Bahrain’s score has remained very low, amid continuous failure to improve corruption indicators.
