International media reports indicate that Ireland, Spain, and Norway are planning to recognize the State of Palestine, with the possibility of other European countries joining this movement. Potential countries that may recognize Palestine include Belgium, Malta, and Slovenia, as they have previously expressed similar intentions.
In previous statements, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that the Spanish government intends to recognize Palestine as a state in the near future, in coordination with other countries. Similarly, Irish Foreign and Defense Minister Micheál Martin stated that Dublin will officially recognize Palestine in May, without specifying an exact date.
The Spanish newspaper “El País” reported that Spanish authorities and several other European countries are seriously considering recognizing Palestine, confirming that Ireland, Malta, and Slovenia are among these countries.
In late April, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, stated that many EU countries would recognize Palestine by the end of May.
Currently, 140 out of the 193 United Nations member states recognize Palestine as an independent state, including Russia, and Palestine has embassies and permanent missions in 95 countries worldwide.
