“In a move that reflects public consensus, the hashtag release Bahrain Prisoners (#release_Bahrain_Prisoners) has become the most trending hashtag in the kingdom.

This comes as Bahrain witnesses the campaign initiated by the National Islamic Accord Association on social media platforms, calling for the release of political detainees.

With widespread participation from citizens, political elites, activists, and human rights organizations, thousands of posts have circulated on Friday evening under the hashtag Free Bahrain Prisoners, urging immediate release of political detainees and taking serious steps towards resolving all existing crises.

In this context, the National Islamic Accord Association reiterated the ongoing human rights violations in Bahrain, pointing out the continued detention of 556 individuals for political reasons, underscoring the persistence of the human rights crisis in the country.

This campaign coincides with the one-month anniversary of the sit-in by political detainees at Jaw Central Prison, under the slogan ‘Justice Must Prevail’, where detainees insist on their right to freedom without conditions.

On her part, the head of monitoring and documentation at the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, Enas Aoun, expressed the need for a comprehensive resolution of the detainees’ issue and the beginning of a new phase of political, human rights, and humanitarian reforms, emphasizing that the human rights dossier represents the beginning of change and reform in the kingdom.”

On the other hand, former deputy of the Al-Wefaq, Mohammed Jameel Al-Jamri, pointed out the joy felt by some families of released detainees, expressing his sadness for the incomplete step of releasing the remaining political prisoners. He emphasized that Bahrain would be in a better state if it overcame the crises it has been experiencing since February 2011.

In a related context, Sheikh Hussain Al-Akraf, an Islamic researcher and nasheed singer, affirmed the nation’s right to live in happiness and regain its well-being through a political solution that ensures the closure of crisis doors, stressing that Bahrain deserves complete joy.

Meanwhile, legal advisor Ibrahim Sarhan considered the continued detention of political prisoners as retaliation against their struggle for the nation and change for the better, calling for an end to this situation that impedes crisis resolution in Bahrain.

Finally, Sheikh Aziz Al-Khudran emphasized that prolonging the crisis is not in anyone’s favor, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention to resolve this humanitarian and human rights issue.

In a show of solidarity with the political detainees, several popular marches took place in different areas of Bahrain under the slogan “release Bahrain Prisoners”, while families of the detainees staged sit-ins in front of police stations demanding the release of their sons.

What does it mean for the hashtag “release Bahrain Prisoners” to trend?

These widespread popular protests and the transformation of the hashtag “release Bahrain Prisoners” into a trend reflect the community’s solidarity with the issue of political detainees and underscore the strong desire to end a situation that many consider a violation of human rights and basic freedoms.

It is worth noting that the popular campaign “release Bahrain Prisoners” comes amid escalating calls for change and reform in Bahrain, amidst increasing demands for justice and equality for all segments of society.

Concurrently, international solidarity with the issue of political detainees in Bahrain is evident, with human rights organizations and international bodies expressing concern over ongoing human rights violations in the country and calling for the release of detainees and the guarantee of their fundamental rights.

Ultimately, the question remains about the extent to which Bahraini authorities will respond to the demands of both the domestic population and the international community regarding this matter, and whether they will take effective steps towards resolving the political crisis and achieving justice and national reconciliation in the country or not.
