The German Foreign Ministry announced the closure of the Nicaraguan Embassy in the capital, Berlin, following Nicaragua’s filing of a lawsuit against Germany in the International Court of Justice. The lawsuit accuses Germany of complicity in genocide in the Gaza Strip.

German media sources stated that the decision to close the embassy came after Nicaragua filed a lawsuit against Germany in the International Court of Justice.

They clarified that the Nicaraguan Embassy in Austria will handle consular procedures and other requests from Germany.

It was noted that there are approximately 250 Nicaraguan citizens in Germany, while about a thousand German citizens live in Nicaragua.

Nicaragua filed a lawsuit against Germany on Monday, condemning Berlin’s support for the occupying entity in the bloody aggression against the Gaza Strip. It demanded that the court impose urgent measures to prevent Germany from supplying Israel with weapons.

In the 43-page lawsuit submitted to the court, Nicaragua emphasized that Germany is violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide signed in 1948 and accused Germany of contributing to the genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by supplying Israel with weapons.

Nicaragua calls for an immediate halt to German arms shipments to Israel and urges the resumption of funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
